This article goes to everything you want mountain bike racer. Let me tell you a little about my first mountain bike races, and maybe it will inspire you to himself.

Let's start from the beginning ...

I have a form on my local bike shop, filled it out and sent it in with $ 13 Then I re-read Ned Overend book to make sure I knew what the race. I had no idea what to expect during the race, because I had never been to one. All I knew was that before I ride the course before the race.

Well, the week before the race my mother and I drove to the location of the race in search of a forest or in a place with trails. No such luck. After the conversation with a local, we found that the racetrack is located on private property, and it is only for the day of the race. Ok. The trip was not a total waste, at least we knew the instructions, and how long it would take to come here. We drove a few streets back, and I was able to get a feeling for some of the area I would be riding.

The race is on Saturday, so I made sure to Thursday and get a decent ride on Friday, so I would be fresh. (If you have a day on the day before the race, his legs feel "dead" on the race.) Also on Friday, I tried to load as much stuff as possible, race to save time Saturday morning.

I woke up nice and early Saturday morning and had a big breakfast of apple-cinnamon pancakes four hours before the race. Then I got all my stuff in the truck and a double by MTB Race checklist to be sure I had everything I needed.

We have for the race, that was just a little more than an hour away. The trip gave me some time to plan my race and you hear music, to me pumped. Once we are closer, I could see the riders warming on the streets. I have so many beautiful bike and team jerseys, I was a bit intimidated.

We parked on the field more than any other. Decreased a little, and made it to the registration table. She had a package for "Levin Bloomberg. "" After they changed that, I have in my bike clothes and started to warm for 20-30 minutes. (BTW, if I changed, I found a small bathroom under a pavilion. Normally you only in your car.)

I tried to start my practice and my surface, since they in the same place. It's always nice to know whether there are any sharp curves or other surprises near the surface, especially if you are duking it out for first place.

I have it back and the people begin to line so I jumped in about three or four rows back. The race was for a quick speech on the line on the race and how the label. Start! Here we go! I was practicing clipping in the pedal quickly, but what - it took me a few tries this time and they were all on me.

After half a mile or so, we make a pretty steep hill with lots of switchbacks to the field. I love mountains, so I have a few people, and chased a few more on top. Then I ran into a little problem: My descending skills. It's not that I was bad, but I was pretty inexperienced and I all participated in the climb would catch me on the descent. After the trade, with the same people over a few hills, I knew I could not keep my energy wasting so. So at the next exit I want the bike go. I never had the balls to go so fast and nobody could catch me, no more!

The races are only getting harder as they went on. Everything was pretty much mental, I've never driven so fast or in so much agony! At least I could my odometer and see that only 4 miles left!

As the race went, I was to people, the team wore jerseys. How can they be promoted?

Then I met a nice downhill along a pipeline. Very funny! Has a corner and ... another hill!

Human comfort to me at the base of the hill, the kind of weird, I never had the people cheering, for me while I was driving on a bicycle before. Anyway, this hill is freakin 'great! I could not feel the pain no longer, and I just started flying up the hill because I knew the race was almost over. (A good use for an odometer!)

I clicked on the summit of the hill, realized that it left, and more fun! It worked perfectly, because I was in a position to someone else. Then it was all downhill fun. The feeling I had on the climb was really euphoric. That's what racing is all about!

As I said at the end, people are on their Porches just the race and cheering me on. After a sharp right, I cross the finish line. My mother is nowhere to be seen, so I have a cool lap. When I returned to the line, crosses some Guy and his friend said he would have made the Top 10 with "Finish". I was astounded. I was sure it was a fairly large amount of drivers in front of me.

Then I just waited around for a few hours (not unusual), because the results were, and enjoyed a nice shaved ice and some free water during the qualifying period. And yes, I did change out of my angry, sweaty uniform.

Finally, the trophies: 5 I have total, what me a 1st in the 16-19 age bracket, earning power and a small trophy to me, with my T-shirt free. Wow!

Then I went home with the first trophy I could be proud of! I love racing!
