Before you start any bike maintenance you have to clean your bike, that does not mean that a bit with a cloth, it must be really clean and there are a few things you need to be given the task may You have to buy equipment, but most of them can be found around the house, try under the sink, but do not let your wife / mother catch you.

First devices, what you need: --

* A bicycle workstand or handy tree / rope to hang the bike on.
* Old or old rear hub axle or stick.
* Degreaser or diesel fuel (diesel caution is not good for the hands).
* Hot water.
* Washing up liquid.
* 2 buckets (1 with soapy water and 1 with clean water).
* Brushes.
* Old bottle of water.
* Bottlebrush.
* Soft scrubbing brush.
* 2 sponges.
* Towels.
* Oil.
* And for those extra shinny surface spray Polish.

The most important thing to remember when cleaning your bike is to make the eyes open and looking for something that need fixing later, this is like a mechanic on a professional team, but he could be at least 10 bicycles to take care of, it is much simpler with only one.

Start with the wheels, cut off the top of the old water bottle and a few in degreasers, you can spray with a degreaser, but most of these wastes. With the brush work in the degreaser teeth too cautious, not too much in stock. Then, with hot water and liquid detergent to scrub the teeth clean, then scrub clean the rims of old brake residue, you can use a little degreaser to help, but do not get it on your tires. Scrub clean the tires with a soft brush wash, at this point on the tire for any cut in the tread, which later puncture and check the rims for damage, or if they wear thin. With a sponge and soapy water then rinse them in the spokes of clean water and put it to one side to dry, not in direct sunlight.

Now the rest of the bike in your bike on your bike workstand or other useful articles, you can hang it on. Insert the old hub / axle / stick in the rear end of the frame so that the chain may be based on it, then with the brush and the old water bottle with a degreaser to clean the chain, the front and rear derailleur, chainrings and cranks, brakes and other metal parts, do not try to put it on the saddle, handlebar tape, and not too much on the headset and bottom bracket bearings. The degreaser and brush to clean under the definition of the tube, how to find any form of spillage your filter will be a very sticky, and it should shift degreasers.

Now take the bottlebrush or a sponge and a bucket of soapy water to clean and under the saddle, under the bottom bracket, among the brakes and under the forks, use the washing brush, stubborn dirt at all, then with a sponge and soapy water to clean off all dirt and grease remover solved. Then with a clean sponge soapy water to clean any part of the bike with the handlebars and saddle and work the bike to make sure that the whole wheel is clean, then rinse with clear water. Remember, keep your eyes open for things like worn brake pads, gritty warehouses, narrow or cables or cracks or damage to the frame, when all is in order, the wheels back into the socket

Things to look for when you clean your bike: --

* Worn brake blocks.
* Damaged or thin edge walls.
* Damaged or cut tires.
* Damaged chain.
* Damaged or bent handlebar and stem.
* Twisted or damaged saddle.
* Torn or worn handlebar tape.
* Damaged or worn chain rings and sprockets.
* Damaged or worn chain.
* Damage to cranks and pedals.
* State or gear and brake cable.
* Damage to frame tubes.
* Loose or broken spokes.
* Condition of the brake calipers.
* All bearings should run smoothly.

So your bike is now clean, dry with a clean cloth, and when you want it managed to polish spray, but do not get all on the brake surface, or you will not stop you when you first go out. Next you need to oil the chain and all moving parts, brake pivot bolts, front and rear derailleur, pedal springs and the pin on the brake, wipe any spilled oil, check the wheels and brakes work well, pump your tires and you can go for it on the bike clean and sparkling. Oh! And remember, once again all the stuff under the sink before you on your bike tour or your own dinner if you come home.
