Remember if you do not have the wheels on a bicycle? Your bike had a tooth on the bike pedals and a small tooth on the rear wheel that everything you need. Then you've got a little older and has your first 10-fold. The bike had two front teeth and five on the back. In all likelihood, the switches were a couple of levers for your bike frame near the handlebars. As time went on the counter even in the handlebars and then select Advanced Search to the right of the handle. And next thing you knew, instead of a paltry ten speeds on a bicycle, driving a 27-speed mountain climbing machine!
Why all this gear? Riding around faster and easier, of course. Regardless of the number of gears your bike has, if it 2 or more, then there is a basic set-up, which employs almost any bicycle.
First, you have all your teeth, front and rear. This, together with the chain, the main components of the transmission system. To determine your ratio is the number of teeth on the front sprocket on the number of teeth on the back of the wheel.
If your front sprocket has 52 teeth, and the rear sprocket 20 teeth, then you are dealing with a ratio of 2.6. The higher the ratio, the faster the transmission. Typically the gear on the front, starting from the inside than you are. On the back wheel, although the main course is usually the furthest inside and they are always smaller than you are.
The next important component for your mountain bike gear, the derailleur, or derailer. The derailleur is what moves the bicycle chain from gear to gear. A typical shift system employs both a front and rear derailleur. Without the derailleur you would not be able to gear. The switch consists of rollers and the cage, that's the part that is actually in contact with the chain. The roles are connected to the transmission cable. There are separate cables for the front and rear derailleurs. The transmission cable to connect to the gear shifter.
There are a number of gear-shifter, available today, and they cover a broad spectrum of price. The gear lever is what you for switching. The first type of lever shifters have been known as the friction shifters. This only works by using the cable to the derailleurs.
Friction shifters can be unsettling, because the way they are, which you can easily get between the gearbox and gear accidentally damage or even destroy. The extended range of shifter is known as the index shifters.
Index shifters have specific stops and calibrated to perfectly shift from gear to gear. They eliminate the drawbacks of the earlier friction shifters. Gear shifters can be placed anywhere in the frame of the handlebar to the handles on models, which seem part of the brake lever.
Mountain bikes have more gears to make it easier for you to negotiate difficult terrain. Higher gears are there to help you speed downhill or across the flats, gear and lower case letters are there to help you overcome this difficult climbs. Remember that it is best to gears if you do not put much value on your pedals. Shifting, if it is strong pressure on the pedals can be harmful to your system shifted.
