A definition of" muscle car "is:
"" A car with a high horsepower engine and modest, that weight is capable of a high degree of acceleration. "
Is there a Corvette meet these standards? The Chevy Corvette is a muscle car?
Discover below ...
Take for example, in 1968 Chevrolet Corvette "Sting Ray". "
This muscle car was from 1968 to 1982 and was the "C3" version of the brand.
The engine sizes available were the "small block" "350 cubic inch (5.7 liters) and the" Big Block "454 cu. Inch (7.4 liters). These engines produced 370 PS and 425 PS.
Are the engines with high horsepower levels? Yes .. we can tick that box!
True, the Corvette's massive horsepower levels to meet the first criterion, but how about that "modest" weight "tag?
Again, we use the Corvette in 1968 as our target vehicle. This car has a curb weight: 3210 kg (1.456 tonnes), gave us the following measurements:
5.7 liters: 254 hp per tonne
7.4 Liter: 292 bhp per tonne
A low curb weight and the high hp is certainly a good performance / weight rating.
Right .. massive horsepower, low weight and high horsepower per tonne, should be included in a respectable acceleration times.
No? Oh, but YES!
The "small block" "1968 Corvette (by Car Life magazine June 1968) Previous:
0-60 mph: 8.6 seconds
The "Big Block" "is returned:
0-60 mph: 6.5 seconds
The maximum speed of a C3 Corvette 142 mph
OK, it may not seem large numbers today, but remember, these figures were 40 years!
The new Chevrolet Corvette, that in 2009, because of the situation is, allegedly, to 200 miles per hour barrier. Well, that, in my opinion very well be a muscle car.
