Purchase of a bicycle is not quite as expensive as that - but there are so many brands available on so many different price ranges, that it is up to you a little bit before you go and spend money.

How much you pay?

Are you already a biker, or are you just the inclusion of the sport? Do you intend to ride every day or only on weekends? Do you have a safe place to put your bike when you are not using it?

If you simply interested in the hobby mountain biking, you do not want to buy a top-of-the-line thousand dollar bike until you are sure you are using it. Of course there is a Catch-22 there. Top-of-the-line bikes are so easy and soooo good that you're probably in one case, whereas if you are a poor bike to work with him you could sour on the sport forever.
